We have carried out over the past six years a large LQR programme of research about experiences of symptoms in cancer patients [18-25]. This included interviews with patients from eight cancer diagnostic groups (and their caregivers) from diagnosis to three, six and 12 months later.

These include factors related the population being studied, and their environment; wherein stability in terms of geographical mobility and distribution, coupled with an ability to continue follow-up remotely in case of displacement, are key. It is furthermore essential to appropriately weigh the various measures, and classify these accordingly so as to facilitate the allocation effort at the data collection stage, and also guide the use of possibly limited funds (3). Additionally, the engagement and commitment of organisations contributing to the project is essential; and should be maintained and facilitated by means of regular training, communication and inclusion as possible. In contrast, cross-sectional analysis is another study type that may analyse multiple variables at a given instance, but provides no information with regards to the influence of time on the variables measured—being static by its very nature. Nonetheless, cross-sectional studies require less time to be set up, and may be considered for preliminary evaluations of association prior to embarking on cumbersome longitudinal-type studies.

Because longitudinal studies observe variables over extended periods of time, researchers can use their data to study developmental shifts and understand how certain things change as we age. A longitudinal study is a type of observational and correlational study that involves monitoring a population over an extended period of time. • We have clearly identified that longitudinal research with patients with a poor prognosis and experiencing long term challenges is worthwhile. However, thought needs to be given to the timing of data collection and the heterogeneity of the sample.

They say Rial killed the witch that haunted them, which Mark finds funny. Bol says they decided to live with the ghosts of their past from South Sudan, including Nyagak. She is fearful of her neighbors and becomes more lost. She finally approaches some Black teenagers to ask for help. Although they help her, they also mock her accent and tell her to go back to Africa.

It’s a very current story of two Sudanese refugees who are given asylum in Britain but under some oppressive conditions including that they must not work and they must not leave the house which they are assigned. But the couple has brought something with them on their journey and the two are tormented inside the squalid house by ghosts and apparitions who live in the walls but can inflict very real damage on the pair. They’re strong, but it often sounds as if they’re trying to convince themselves of that when they speak (“This is our home,” Bol says ad infinitum, first as a declaration and then as a mantra). They’re grieving, but it often sounds as if their loss belongs to someone else, or perhaps just the people they used to be (“We can start a family,” Bol tells his wife). Nobody said the transition would be easy, but Bol seems especially troubled, haunted by something that manifests itself in the apartment walls.

As for the ghosts, she says they are still with them, and always will be as the ghosts are part of who they are. But the two affirm they will live with the ghosts while making a new life together. The film ends with Bol and Rial peacefully sitting with the ghosts of their past.

The power of the movie, in the end, is in giving that world substance. That, and allowing our own fears to bring it to light. Well, theft is quite a concept in a movie about refugees. And Bol and Rial, as evocatively embodied by Dìrísù and Mosaku, are rightly conflicted.

The film ends with Mark and two of his colleagues visiting Bol and Rial at their home. They have completely embraced their lives in London, which surprises Mark. Although it appears that they have made remarkable progress, it doesn’t mean that they have completely forgotten their past. Nyagak and every other person they have lost in South Sudan and on their way to England will now forever be part of their memories. The month ahead will bring new films from Alex Garland, Luca Guadagnino, Dev Patel, and more.

When he goes out for air, Bol’s neighbor tells him he should just leave the home as they will be sent back to Africa no matter what. The film jumps ahead to Bol and Rial in a detention center. They are summoned by government bureaucrats who tell them they are in luck.

Still not at peace, Bol tries to throw himself at the mercy of the councilman Mark (Matt Smith) begging him to house them somewhere else and claiming there are rats – when Mark visits, Rial insists on telling him about the witch. As the house deteriorates further and further the film leads us to a first shocking but then redemptive conclusion. Despite its failings, the film is worth watching for the good work from its two leads, and because there are some sorts of horror that don't get talked about nearly as much as they should.
